Red Mango Review

Picky I may be, but I am no frozen yogurt snob. Okay, so I don’t dare try random hole-in-the-wall fro-yo places in desolate cities, but I don’t really care if a yogurt place meets the National Yogurt Association (yes, this does exist) criteria.

I am, though, willing to open my palette to nice fro-yo places in some sort of nice plazas. With what luck and coincidence, I stumbled upon this Red Mango when I was in the Crystal Cove Promenade down by Newport Coast. Being hardly in this area, I don’t remember what used to be here. I do remember it was no Red Mango before. You might be quite shocked when I say this, but I had not yet tried Red Mango frozen yogurt before this incident. So, excitedly I decided to check out the place (it was 90+ degrees out!).

And boy, I was not disappointed! I now see what those frozen yogurt fiends are raving about. Red Mango just made my list of top frozen yogurt places to go to (oh great, did I just turn into a fro-yo snob now that I have a top fro-yo list!).

Food & Price

Pomegranate and Original Swirl – top with strawberries (~$4.50 for a medium)

  • The pomegranate and plain yogurt mixed together was really delightful. Not too tart, it’s got the perfect sweetness. I would say that Pinkberry is much more tart. But Red Mango is much creamier than Yogurtland.
  • Only got strawberries for topping. Strawberries were sweet, and there were ample to go with the yogurt. I’m guessing here that getting one topping might be more worthwhile for your dollar since the server gave me so much. It’s $0.50 per topping, and additional toppings mean less real estate, since all toppings would share the same yogurt cup. I could be wrong. Though when comparing the prices to Yogurtland, Yogurtland wins.
  • No hollow center in the cup when I was half done – plus!

Service

  • Surprisingly, nobody was in here when I arrived. Not even the servers. Well, two teen girls eventually emerged from the back door to greet me. They were nice nonetheless.
  • While I was enjoying my yogurt on the nice lounge chair, a few people came, got their yogurt, and left. Nobody stuck around sitting inside the store. Good for me, while I sat back and relax with no chatter.

Ambiance

  • Interior is very cutesy and decor goes with the Red Mango theme.
  • They have comfy red lounge chairs with accompanying red ‘O’ shaped tables. They also have red chairs, red walls, and yummy looking posters.
