Chinese Broccoli Recipe
“…Excuse me… Chinese broccoli. Do you want? It’s so good!”
Ah yes, good ol’ Chinese broccoli dim sum style at your favorite Chinese restaurant. Did you ever know that Chinese broccoli (aka ‘gai lan’) is slightly bitter? You probably couldn’t tell because it’s covered in oyster sauce. Do you even see broccoli on that plate?
Now you can duplicate the Chinese broccoli recipe here! I learn this from none other than mom dearest. Her Chinese broccoli recipe doesn’t have the broccoli drenched with oyster sauce, but it’s still oh-so-good because you can taste the garlic and oyster flavor as well. But if more oyster sauce is the way you roll, then by all means, go right on ahead and add to your full pleasure!
Chinese Broccoli Recipe
Ingredients
Yield: 4-6 servings

- 1 packet, 10-12 oz. Chinese broccoli
- 2 tblsp oyster sauce (I like Lee Kum Kee’s Panda brand)
- 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- vegetable oil
- salt
Directions
- Wash the Chinese broccoli.Cut off ends of stems.
- Separate the leaves from the stems. Cut into bite size pieces.
- In a large pot, boil water. Make sure you have enough water to cover the broccoli.
- Add a dash of salt, lemon juice, and oil into the water.
- Boil the stems first, for about 2 minutes, since the stems will take longer to cook.
- Add the leaves into the pot, boil for another 3 minutes. Total boiling time is 5 minutes.

- Drain broccoli. Leave aside.
- In the same large pot, over medium high heat, drizzle some oil.
- Add garlic. Sautee until golden brown.
- Add oyster sauce. Mix with garlic.
- Turn off heat.
- Add in broccoli into the pot. Mix with the oyster sauce and garlic.
- Season salt to taste.
- Serve immediately.
- If you’d like more oyster sauce, feel free to add more on top of the broccoli.
